ecodesign course
Over the last fifteen years I have been teaching and developing eco-design in the Mediarts School of the Waikato Institute of Technology in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton), Aotearoa. www.wintec.ac.nz
The concept of sustainable design (ecodesign) is a reaction to the design practices peculiar to our present times. This wave of ‘green design’ should never have become a separate discipline within design education. All design must be sustainable if the paradigm of design is to solve problems. Nevertheless, in an environment where so much design aims to hide the true nature of production, I have developed this course to encourage an understanding of the impact of design in our social and physical environments so that as designers, producers and consumers we embrace our responsibilities.
Students are encouraged to apply sustainable design in the different courses they are studying and in their every day lives.
